Commentarii de Bello Gallico is Julius Caesar’s account of his campaigns in Gaul from 58-50 BC. It was one of my favorite books as a kid. When I was twelve, I was so fascinated by Roman history I would take the train to Stuttgart University to attend history classes. Caesar’s book makes the reader picture the legions building their camps, the intense tactical warfare with Gallic tribes, the river crossings, the battles… After work these days, I’ve been re-reading the text and took some notes in graphic form using Excalidraw. Below is a hand-drawn style summary of Caesar’s seven books.
